The first match after Lockdown 2.0 was met with great joy by all boys, coaches and parents.  It has been a long 4 week wait.

The pitch was in pretty good condition considering the amount of recent heavy rain. But the boys didn’t care, they just wanted to play. AFC Aldermaston started strong with some good passing moves which the Raiders defended well to keep out a number of attacking moves.  The Raiders slowly got the upper hand and got their passing game going.  Raiders were ultimately rewarded with a goal by Cian.  Aldermaston responded strongly and a good first quarter ended with Raiders in front.  The second quarter was just as exciting as the first, with good play from both sides. Aldermaston’s persistence was rewarded and the first half ended even.  This was turning into a great game with fabulous play and excitement.

The second half was no different and there was plenty of top class play.  Shots, saves, tackles and lots of energy.  Raiders squandered some goal scoring opportunities which could have sealed the game in the third quarter.  Aldermaston capitalised and managed to score with some long shots which gave the keeper little chance.  The fourth quarter saw the Raiders tiring and ultimately Aldermaston held on to the end.

Several mentions for the Raiders:  Man of the match: Cian. Outstanding goalkeeping by Jackson, James, Monty and Archie Bird. Fantastic defence from Nathan, Archie Barker, Ben and Monty. Huge energy and commitment from Archie Ellis in the midfield and on the wing. Strong attacks by Archie Ellis, Monty and Cian. With Ben in ever present support and in control of the Midfield.  Well done all, prepare for next week!
