RAIDERS COMPLETE LEAGUE DOUBLE OVER CENTRE SKILLS
Raiders entertained Centre Skills this morning at Goaters Road. Musty was unavailable due to injury but Keeyan, Jimbo and Finlay stepped into the breach and acquitted themselves well.
Raiders took the game to the opposition from the off and took and early lead on 6 mins, Harry making a brilliant run into the penalty area to get on the end of a Jack free kick and flicking a header into the far corner. For their part Centre Skills were trying to play the long through ball but Jack and Hari held firm and behind them Keeyan comfortably ‘swept up’ any loose balls. Given that Raiders were creating the better half chances it was no surprise when Cory fastened onto a loose ball on the edge of the area and drove a shot low past the keeper at his near post. With Raiders firmly in control other chances came and went, Morgan smashing the ball into the side netting, Kyran just clearing the bar with a free kick and Euan shooting wide. HT 2-0
The second half saw Jimbo replace Keeyan in goal and Centre Skills became more ambitious and threw more players forward and posed one or two problems without really threatening the goal. Raiders however, were giving away silly free kick in dangerous places and from one of these Jimbo had to push the ball over the bar. The game was end to end, but Raiders didn’t have the same level of control as the first half and consequently didn’t create any clear-cut chances, although the linesman’s flag thwarted several of the more decent ones! Finlay replaced Jimbo in goal for the final 10 minutes but it was a sign of Raiders dominance that he didn’t have much to do.
A workmanlike victory, albeit much closer than the earlier encounter between the two teams. Full marks to the boys who stepped up to play in goal. As I write we are up to third in the league with three games in hand.
