Report

For the first game of the season we were captained by Kiyan, in a very entertaining game.

The first half was dominated by the Saints. We pressed really well plus passed and moved the ball quickly and effectively.

Our pressure paid off with Tom, Jimi & Ed all pressurizing 1 of Bracknell’s defenders on the ball in his box. This led to a scramble in the 6 yard box with Matteo hitting a half volley into the back of the net.

We kept up the tempo after the goal. Unfortunately we were hit on the counter. It was Bracknell’s first attack & unluckily they scored with it.

Towards the end of the half which the Saints had dominated, Bracknell were given a free kick on the edge of our box. They hit the crossbar, which caused a scramble in our box. Bracknell were able to capitalize and lucky to go into halftime 2 -1 up.

In the 2nd half both teams were closing down the players on the ball well. The Saints continued to create chances going forward with quick, smart runs and balls. We were dominating again.

Matteo played a great through ball for Jimi to run onto and emphatically finish into the top corner, giving the keeper no chance. Soon after we scored again with some smart play on the left from Tom who squared a great ball into Ethan in the box, who coolly finished.

In the excitement of being ahead we started to let Bracknell back into the game.

Towards the end of the game the ref awarded a dubious penalty to Bracknell. Raj did excellently to save the penalty and the rebound, to keep us in the game.

There were strong defensive performances by the whole back line & our team in general. Unfortunately Bracknell hit us with a third goal after a save from Raj was pounced on by the Bracknell striker.

Today was the first competitive game for this new Saints team and we showed real character, desire and quality. The players should all be very proud of themselves.

Players player of the Game – Raj for heroics on the penalty and good play throughout.

Coaches Man of the Match – Matteo for tirelessly running everywhere and playing brilliantly in midfield. His performance was topped off with a goal and an assist.

Well done to all the Saints team, as they were all brilliant
