Ascot United v Broadfields United postponed

#WeAreAscot.

We can confirm that our Tuesday night, 13th September, fixture with Broadfields United has been postponed at the discretion of the Combined Counties Football League. The League have stated the following regarding the decision to postpone the fixture.

“Ascot v Broadfields has been postponed on Tuesday evening, due to anticipated road clogging around RAF Northolt, esp on the A40, close to where Broadfields have to travel. Local roads are also being closed.”

Whilst the fixture will no longer go ahead as scheduled, we would still like to take this opportunity to include our Chairman’s programme notes as we reflect on the recent passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at Ascot United.

“Tonight’s game will be played in the shadow of the sad news last week of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II – we will be paying our respects before the game, and our thoughts continue to be with the Royal Family at this time.  For us at Ascot United she has an even closer connection than for most – firstly, she will have ridden past our ground on countless occasions, passing behind the righthand goal as she navigated the Royal Mile on route to the Royal Meeting at Ascot.  And secondly, she was our landlady – we are one of the few clubs in the country situated on Crown Estate land, and the growth of the club would not have been possible without the ongoing support of her representatives at the Racecourse and at The Crown Estate for which we will always be grateful.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was a long-standing patron of the Football Association and to be part of a football club that hosts its matches on the Crown Estate, it has been sad few days since we heard of her passing.”

We will do our best to inform you all as soon as we know when the new date of the rearranged fixture will be.
