Usman Lalustani in action against Flackwell Heath in the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup Second Round Qualifying

Despite a dominant display in the second half the Yellas exit the same Cup they made the final of last season to fellow Combined Counties side Flackwell Heath.

Flackwell began proceedings early on with a two-minute freekick after a foul by George Lock but the chance was fired wide of the post and Ascot reset themselves. Usman Lalustani and Ollie Harris made light of the wings with crosses from the pair in the first ten.

Two corners in quick succession but nothing could be made of either chances and Flackwell were quick to counter. Dan Price was switched on however and forced a turn from the Flackwell defender which allowed to push out the chance.

Keaton August almost put the Yellas ahead as a defender error put him through on goal but Cairo Richards was quicker to react and denied a shot on goal. Shortly followed by a racing chance from Harris who zoomed through the centre of the pitch guiding the ball out to the left before sending the ball into the path of August to no avail.

Just fifteen minutes played and Ascot were awarded a penalty, Harris stepped up but fired straight at the keeper and no-one could make anything of the rebounding ball. Kai Walters fancied his chances from the right but his strike was fired at the side-netting.

The half hour mark looming at Duarte Surpanu puts the visitors ahead as he was one on one with Jamie Ashdown and saved the initual strike but the block fired off his leg and rolled beyond the goal-line.

45 minutes played and August drew foul close to the 18 yard box Harry Grant sending the ball for Louis Bouwers to head home but the chance was far beyond the goal and the referee called for half time.

Both sides saw plenty of the ball in the first 10 minutes of the second half but it was Flackwell who forced the first save before they were awarded a freekick. Reece Camerom fired right under the wall but both chances were easily collected by Ashdown.

Ascot applied the pressure however and Harry Grant was allowed space to find Harris on the wing who posted in a looping cross but the chance was beyond the run of Lalustani. Ascot finding a little more of possession saw an Harris freekick fire miles over the bar, before Grant took control of the same chance when another foul was drawn just minutes later.

Grant doing lots of work in this half sprayed a shot at goal from distance but the chance was wide and a reset required. Sean McCormack injected pace into the Yellas performance as he commanded the right wing, sending the defender the wrong way and powering a cross into the box. Harris tried to catch the flight of the ball but was unable to get a touch.

Despite multiple attempts from the Yellas, they were unable to make anything of their chances and a final attempt from Harris, who sent in a corner which connected with Matthew’s head, wasn’t to be.

With five to play, Flackwell sealed the deal with a Fabian Drifill strike. Ascot United exit the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup at the Second Round Qualifying.
