Dressing room and indoor bar

A traditional pre-season welcome to Dave and his Holyport squad.. Both sides brought large squads to share the load and ensure that injuries were kept to a minimum in this first warm up game.

It was a really successful evening for Ascot. 18 players getting good minutes and competitive football. The score was not important today (it was 7-2), It was important to develop conditioning and concentration.

After 6 minutes, those on the sidelines thought the score should’ve been 2-2 but in the end we did have to wait until the 12th minute for the first goal when Wooz played in Tim who slotted it home. Ascot had the majority of possession and in 34th minute Rob scored possibly the goal of the season. A wonderfully powerful strike from 30 yards that fizzed into the top corner. Jimmy Anderson would’ve been proud of the swing.

Some good signs and you could see the rust falling away when Ascot were moving the ball and themselves quickly.

Two more goals in this half as Rob and Tim both got their second and it was 4-0 at half time.

Rob completed his hattrick with a free kick from the edge of the box. A deep free kick into the Ascot half was poorly defended and Holyport got one back.

At 60 minutes there were mass changes as Ascot made 7 substitutions and brought on a wealth of experience.  We also welcomed Adam Abusweder onto the field for his debut. Adam is another coach from our youth team section. Dave Porter clipped a lovely ball into the box and Adam just fired over as Ascot continued to press forward. Stu found Ben in the clear with a lovely reverse. Touch and finish from Ben was high quality. Holyport got one back with an excellent move from deep in their own half. Rich made a great save and the ball rebounded to the striker which allowed JK to make an even better save. Penalty and 6-2

The final goal of the game is another contender for goal of the season but may or may not even win goal of the match. A flowing move orchestrated by Simmo with about 6 first time passes including a delicious outside reverse pass by Dave P with Ben finishing with aplomb. Dave Porters Cantonaesque goal celebration will remain a personal highlight of the game.

Two games a 5-1 win and a 2-1 win. Well played.

Special mention to JK, as last seasons players player of the year he took the captains arm band for today. A solid performance, the only outfield player to do 90mins and an inspirational half time team talk

A good evening. Great to be in the dressing rooms again, great to be inside a bar again and delighted to have an injury free evening.
