RAIDERS BACK TO WINNING WAYS WITH LAST GASP GOAL AGAINST BARTON ROVERS

Raiders entertained Barton Rovers in their last home game of the season at Victory Field looking to end their recent wretched run of three consecutive defeats.
After a pre-match talk from Dan and Rory the boys started brightly and took the game to Barton and opened the scoring on 12 mins when Morgan was put through and scored despite the keeper getting something on the ball. Three mins later Harry shot just wide when well placed, after being played in by Morgan. The Barton keeper then made a great one on one save, again from Harry, while at the other end Musty was generally untroubled with Barton being restricted to shooting from range as Hari and Keeyan controlled the midfield. Raiders continued to create half chances with Morgan shooting over from a tight angle, Jack and James B having headed efforts cleared and Morgan again having a shot well saved. HT 1-0

The second half began in much the same fashion as the first with Raiders on the front foot. Almost immediately Hari had a great chance but couldn’t get his feet right and the keeper saved again. The pressure finally told on 46 mins when a Kyran corner, driven in low, was blasted home first time by Cory. On 53 mins the game changed when Barton pulled one back, a cross from our right was headed back across goal for the striker to nod home, 2-1. This put new heart into Barton and they began to overwhelm Raiders in midfield and 6 mins later equalised when a shot from outside the area squirmed under Musty’s body and into the net 2-2. Barton began to dominate possession without creating any clear-cut chances due to some last ditch defending by Raiders back four. Raiders were now posing only the occasional threat, a Finlay shot being deflected and gathered by the keeper and Harry shooting just over first time after good work by Jack and Euan. With just a couple of minutes left Barton had a screamer of a shot just wide and in the final minute a long ball out of defence by Jack was flicked on by Morgan for Euan to run through and score. A few seconds later the referee blew for full time, final score 3-2

On the balance of play a deserved result for Raiders, excellent performances all round with Morgan particularly effective in the first half.
