RAIDERS RUE MISSED CHANCES IN DRAW AT YATELEY IN FINAL GAME OF SEASON

Raiders travelled to Yateley this morning to play Yateley Boys in the final game of the season, looking to consolidate their fourth place in the league

Raiders started well with Kyran deputising for Cory on the right of midfield and Freddie taking his place at right back. On 12 mins a superb crossfield pass from Hari aided by some neat footwork from Kyran, put him in for a shot that the keeper saved well. A minute later Raiders opened the scoring with a Finlay header from a Kyran cross after some persistent play from Euan. Yateley however were no pushovers and carried a threat with their pace and power and Musty had to be at his best to get down to a close-range header and parry it away where it was subsequently cleared by a defender. Then from a Raiders’ break Euan had a great chance to score but scuffed his shot which allowed the keeper to save. Raiders were giving away too many free kicks as they struggled to contain the opposition and from one of them there were three Yateley players in the six yard box completely unmarked but fortunately the header went over the bar. Raiders still had one more chance, where a better connection would have led to a goal, but yet again there was insufficient power behind the shot. Yateley themselves created one more chance that Musty saved, with Yateley appealing the ball had crossed the line, but their left winger had already been flagged offside. HT 0-1

Yateley started strongly in the second half and won another free kick on Raiders left on 43 mins. The ball was struck low which bamboozled everyone and crept into the corner of the net via a deflection. The game now ebbed and flowed with some dogged defending by Jamie and James B, while at the other end Keeyan struck a shot just wide, Harry had a shot saved after being put through by Hari and a little later the keeper saved from Harry again and close range from Euan. At the other end Yateley were unable to fashion any clear-cut chances with passes being overhit and the Raiders defence battling away to frustrate them. The last 10 mins saw Raiders pressing for the winner and gained a couple of corners which unfortunately were overhit, the nearest they came to scoring was when a Hari shot was charged down. FT 1-1
A battling performance from the boys with everyone playing their socks off in the final game of the season before they move onto pastures new and negotiate their GCSEs and Sixth Form.

This is my final report and I hope those of you that have read them have enjoyed what has been written.
