Report:

Ascot Utd Vet’s 2’s battled their way to a 5-1 win against Old Tiffs 2’s at the Racecourse Ground. The game started evenly with Ascot trying to move the ball quickly to feet and use width of the pitch. Despite best intentions, Ascot gave away the ball too often going forward. On 11 mins, a stray pass was pounced on by an Old Tiffs midfielder who’s through ball was picked up quickly by their striker. His low shot brought an excellent save from Kev who turned it round his right-hand post for a corner.  Ascot created at least two one-on-one chances but the Tiff’s keeper was proving hard to beat. On 27 mins, a good pass from defence found Stu who squared to Martin then to Phil who ghosted past his marker to find John Gavin back post to slot home. Great finish! Ascot were going great guns and more quick passing to feet and a low drilled cross found Phil who connected well but he fired over the bar. Old Tiffs were still in the game and were composed from the back with their play orchestrated by No 16. Ascot went 2-0 up on 40 mins – Phil’s cross met sweetly by Jez to head home.

2-0 HT

Ascot scored their crucial 3rd goal on 59 minutes – great passing from deep and hustling from Adam in Tiffs 18yd box saw Tiffs keeper parry a shot into the path of JGav to finish from close range, 3-0. Tiffs then had their best period play hitting the post with a decent shot and forcing some frantic Ascot defence. Ascot eventually conceded on 63 mins 3-1.

The game became stretched/end to end and it was Ascot who came through strongest. A great run from Jez latching onto a Chris Tredwell through ball and cross saw Mike Hynes tap at far post, 4-1 on 71 minutes. In the 85th minute, Jad launched the ball up the line…Jez gave chase and there was only one winner as he brushed aside two defenders to square to Phil to fire home, 5-1.

5-1 FT

Well done all. Great to see Matt Newall back in a yellow shirt after long injury
