|On Saturday, Ascot United Development side won 2-1 at Leverstock Green to ensure the Suburban League title race will go to the final Matchday. However, the title would probably already have been Tring Athleticís, had their lowly opponents Fleet Spurs not withdrawn from their match on Saturday citing a shortage of player, meaning that the Tring v Fleet match is still to be played.
What this means is that if Ascot win their final league match at Harefield tomorrow (Tuesday 16th), they will move three points clear of Tring. Tring would then need to win their outstanding match against Fleet to leapfrog the Yellamen by virtue of a vastly superior goal difference Ė and they would be strong favourites to do so even before considering what sort of team Fleet will be able to raise.
Either way, an Ascot win tomorrow will signal the end of a strong season, and at least put some pressure on Tring to win their final match at a date still tbc.
On Sunday, there was an important win for Ascot Ladies Reserves. Lou Pullenís hat-trick and Katie Vince earned a 4-3 win for the Yellawomen at Holyport, a result which keeps them in 4th place and ahead of Holyport on goal difference. The Yellawomen went 2-0 up, although in a close contest Holyport cut the deficit, before Ascot went 3-1 and 4-2 up ahead of a nail-biting finale when the opposition bagged a late third.
The Ladies Reserves will next travel to Penn and Tylers Green on 28th April.
