Bright Diamonds win at Spurs!
Ascot United Diamonds U11s got their summer off to a flyer with a brilliant tournament win at Fleet Spurs 6 a-side. And in case you are wondering the girls bought the shirts for tournaments!

Drawn in a group with Alton, Laurel Park and Caversham Black Swans the Diamonds didnt get off to a good start in their first game losing 1-0 to Alton having had all the play but losing out to Altons one and only long range effort.

Now needing 2 wins from 2 Ascot needed to show a bit of character to qualify for the champions league. Up next Laurel Park. Again Ascot dominated the game with several shots forcing some great saves from the keeper. Eventually Chloe Connor broke down the right and played the ball through to Lucy who scored with a thunderous shot into the bottom right corner.

Next up a crunch game against Caversham Black Swans who were going to be the strongest team we played. We dominated the first half of the game and were awarded a penalty half way through the first half. Shannon wasted no time in coverting the penalty off the underside of the bar. We held on for the rest of the game with great defensive work from Orla, Becky and Chloe Checkley and also some fantastic saves from Lily in goal. Caversham hit the post in the last seconds but Ascot held on for the win and qualify as group winners going in to the champions league.

Also qualifying were Caversham from our group and Fleet Spurs and Kew Park Rangers from the other group. So another 4 team round robin to determine the winners of the tournament.

Up first were Kew Park Rangers. This was a very one sided game with Ascot really turning it on running out 3-1 winners with a tremendous hatrick from Shannon but with all the girls playing very well.

Next were Caversham who we were probably fighting against for the tournament win. Our qualifying group game with them was 50/50 but this was different. Ascot were excellent throughout and Millie in particular was brilliant. Millie, who will be joining us for next season moving across from the Sapphires, scored a tremendous long range goal sealing a 1-0 win for Ascot. It could have been more though as Ascot were dominant in this match. What the girls didnt know is due to other results and the tournament decided on result between the teams level points meant Ascot had won it. Gary sent them out for the last game to win.

Last up pitted us against the hosts Fleet Spurs. Ascot ran at 1-0 winners with a great shot/cross from Chloe and Shannon reacting to slot it home.

Well done Lily, Becky, Orla, Chloe Checkley, Lucy, Millie, Shannon and Chloe Connor on a fantastic win. A special mention to Kate Fox who unfortunately injured herself midweek. The girls and parents all missed you and we all hope you get well soon.
