Ascot United make the trip to Alfredian Park on Saturday to play Wantage Town.
Wantage’s promotion to the Southern League at the end of 2013-14 gave the Yellamen a three-season break from playing The Freds, but after relegation back to the Uhlsport Hellenic League for the start of last season, the 2017-18 encounters ended 1-3 and 0-4 in their favour.
Wantage’s fine FA Cup run has contributed to a huge fixture backlog that sees them in a somewhat ‘false’ seventh place – 16 points behind leaders Brackley but with seven games in hand. However, they will turn up on Saturday off the back of three successive home defeats – one of them against professionals MK Dons in the County Cup – but otherwise disappointingly against Deeping Rangers (FA Vase) and Flackwell Heath (league).
Ascot’s form isn’t much better. You might wager a quid on 2-2 – but I am not licensed to offer betting tips – after a string of draws in a run of one win in six!
In other news, the Yellamen have been drawn away at UHL D1E side Chalvey Sports in the Perpetua Press Floodlit Cup. Chalvey play their games at Arbour Park, home of Slough Town, and the game will take place on Tuesday 11th December.
Finally, the weekend’s action sees a festoon of local derbies. The Devs host Finchampstead on Saturday, before Sunday’s ladies’ games include the first team’s trip to Woodley and the Devs home game with Holyport. Stay tuned for everything!
