UPDATE: ASCOT PURSUE VIRTUAL TITLE ON FINAL DAY
***Manager Jamie Tompkins faces a selection crisis ahead of this afternoon’s crucial virtual end-of-season clash with Raynes Park Vale as the Yellamen go for promotion. With much of his side absent due to COVID-19, including top scorer Ian Davies, he has been forced to dig into the Under 18 side to assemble a squad of 14 – which also includes long-term absentee Chris Ellis. Squad: Gray, Lock, Gutteridge, Laflin, Bouwers, Carey, Jones, Denton, Bennett , Higgs , Richardson, Evans, Martin-Cenzano, Ellis.***

Ascot United will make a virtual attempt to win the league title this weekend when they entertain Raynes Park Vale in a virtual league match.

The Yellamen come into the fixture knowing they must at least match fellow-title challengers Knaphill’s result if they are to virtually lift the Combined Counties’ League title; Knaphill lying one point behind the Yellamen after a bruising run-in and faced with a relatively easy-looking final day fixture.

Ascot’s recent form has seen them shrug off other challengers, most recently including Sutton Common Rovers - but they enter the game with a depleted squad as an increasing number of them are unavailable due to the impact of COVID-19.

Manager Jamie Tompkins has been left scratching his head over his options and looks set to call on some of the U18 Allied squad in order to assemble a squad of 14 with a significant number of his playing staff either ill, injured or in self-isolation.

Vale arrive with a chance of avoiding relegation – but they too must win to guarantee their survival – so the scene is set for an afternoon of high drama – virtually!

Check back here after 5pm on Saturday to read the virtual match report.
