FA Vase; Corinthian 2 Ascot United 1
Ascot Unitedís dreams of Wembley next May were ended by in-form Kent outfit Corinthian on Saturday. Despite hitting the post and crossbar inside five seconds as they fought to equalise for a second time, the home side progressed to add take their own tally to twelve wins in thirteen matches.

After a delayed kick-off, the host were quick to strike and a well-placed ninth minute goal would give them an early lead.

Luqman Kassim saw a shot blocked on the line as Ascot sought to respond immediately, and after the same player saw a later effort easily saved, Ian Davies converted Usman Lalustaniís cross at the far post to level proceedings.

However, the Yellamen would emerge for the second half 2-1 down after the hosts struck again just before the break, and after Kassim forced a fine save from Aiden Prall, they would strike the woodwork twice in quick succession.

A fractured final fifteen minutes prevented Jamie Tompkinsí side from maintaining any momentum to force an equaliser, leaving them to contemplate what might have been, before they return to the small matter of trying to retain top spot in the Combined Counties League.

Ascot United: Gray, Burden (Lock), Haworth, Carey, Bouwers, Etienne, Kassim, Denton (Ferguson), Davies, Laflin, Lalustani (Higgs). Subs unused: Taylor, Bennett, Hodges, Richardson.
