|Ascot United travel to Fairford Town on Saturday for what is a hastily-arranged Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division fixture.
With both sides originally without a match, the league took the decision earlier this week to bring forward the game, which had been planned for March 2019.
Manager Jamie Tompkins is unable to attend due to a close family wedding, and the club are appreciative of the players’ efforts to rearrange and reshuffle their own commitments to ensure they are available. And, influenced by the late notice of the fixture, the club will not be running a coach to the Cinder Lane.
The match is, if course, a third trip to Gloucestershire since the season started, with last weekend’s defeat at Longlevens the most recent. Ascot subsequently bounced back with a midweek win at Abingdon United (report and highlights available on this site and Abingdon’s twitter feed respectively (https://twitter.com/AbingdonUtd).
The fixture is also a meeting of bottom versus top, and winless Fairford will go into the game looking for a boost to their hopes against an Ascot side who went top during midweek. Last season, Ascot’s calamitous collapse at Cinder Lane saw them concede a 4-1 lead to draw 4-4, before winning the reverse fixture 4-2 as Ben Harris hit a hat-trick.
Elsewhere, the Ascot United Youth side are in action at Binfield on Thursday, the Development side entertain Abbey Rangers on Saturday, and the Ladies are on the road at Winchester City on Sunday.
