|Ascot United face arguably the toughest of their ten-match run-in when they travel to Wantage Town on Saturday (3pm).
The Alfs are on a good run of form in the league having lost just once since Mid-October, but whilst they lie third in the league it is their defeats against others in the mix – most recently at Thatcham on Boxing Day – that have left their promotion chances hanging by a thread.
Promotion would, of course, give Wantage an immediate return to the Southern League after relegation last season. The Alfs had ‘enjoyed’ a three-season spell in the Southern League, although only narrowly avoided relegation in their first two seasons at that level.
Earlier this season the Yellamen lost the reverse fixture at the Racecourse 3-1. However, the scoreline doesn’t tell the story, as the James Goodey opened the scoring in a dominant opening half-an-hour, only for Wantage to grab three goals before half time to stun Neil Richards’ side in a 3-1 win.
Match reporting will follow. And don’t forget the weekend weather watch article, as always!
